Mr. Sissom's experience spans more than twenty years in the door, hardware, and security electronics industries. Combined with his background and training, this experience has produced a high level of expertise in the application of door opening components fulfilling aesthetic design intent and security requirements, while complying with national and local building codes regulating fire/ life safety and accessibility. He has been recognized expert in door hardware, he was a frequently requested speaker and commentator at industry conferences and events nationwide. His services were widely in demand as a consultant for projects across the country and internationally.

Education and experience in virtually every aspect of conventional door hardware, architectural doors and frames, electric, electronic and security door hardware are integral parts of David's unique qualification as a multi-disciplinary consultant in these interrelated but oft uncoordinated design disciplines. He has been involved in many different aspects of the construction process including manufacturing, marketing and distribution of doors and hardware; as well as field installation of door and hardware systems as a licensed general contractor. As Founder of Door + Hardware Consultants, he has spent more than a decade devoted exclusively to producing specifications and consulting to the A/E community for Door Hardware, Detention Door Hardware, Electrified Door Hardware, Access Control System coordination, and related systems.

Mr. Sabatini was the 2008-2009 National Industry President for the Door & Hardware Institute (DHI) serving in an executive officer position on the Board of Governors. He has over twenty-five years of experience with the door openings industry in multi-disciplinary architectural consulting, specification writing, manufacturing, independent sales representation, contract distribution and installation. Scott has had international responsibility for providing training and consulting to architects, designers, engineers, specification writers, code officials and other industry professionals.

Scott has served on many DHI boards and committees and currently is a Trustee for the Door Security and Safety Foundation. Scott held previous officer positions with the Southern California DHI Chapter and remains a member on their steering and education committees. In 2011 the “Fellow” distinction (FDHI) was awarded to Scott for contributing significant and outstanding service to institute and to the industry.

He has been published in a number of industry articles and case studies, volunteered as an instructor, served as a mentor to apprentices, and made numerous appearances as a guest speaker.

Scott lives in sunny Southern California with his wife Mary Lou.

Scott J. Tobias is the author of Illustrated Guide to Door Hardware: Design, Specification, Selection. He currently serves on the Door & Hardware Institute’s (DHI) Board of Governors and is the Chair of the mid-Hudson chapter of ASIS International (ASIS). He has been servicing the architectural, design, and construction communities for over 25 years with multi-disciplinary door openings industry experience.

Scott has acquired a vast knowledge of door hardware applications, code references, specification writing processes, contract distribution sales, installation practices, and corporate management. He is also an expert with demand generation sales and management strategies, which he shares by public speaking and as a keynote at various educational events.

Having also served on the national board of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and many local and regional boards of both DHI, CSI, and ASIS, he has also authored numerous articles for the Construction Specifier magazine, Cleaning & Maintenance magazine, Life Safety Digest, and Door and Hardware magazine.

Scott lives in New York with his wife and three children.
